An original 1977 Les Paul Standard from Kalamazoo – refretted with stainless steel and fitted with a fresh bone nut, ready for the stage!

She was built in the Norlin era at Gibson's historic Kalamazoo plant in Michigan, which closed its doors in 1984. Thanks to the eight-digit serial number, the build date can be pinned down exactly: 7 December 1977, Kalamazoo plant.

The Wine Red finish with cream binding and pickguard, the trapezoid inlays in the rosewood fingerboard and the aged chrome hardware give it that late-'70s look. The headstock reads "Standard", and original Gibson flower tuners sit on it. The body is one-piece mahogany with a maple top, the neck is maple.

A vintage guitar that wants to be played: in 2026 it was upgraded at Limitless Custom Guitars. The neck was refretted with Wagner 9662ES stainless steel fret wire, a bone nut (Vintage Bone) was made and fitted, and the binding was repaired. The invoice is included.

The signal to the amp is handled by two DiMarzio humbuckers, though no exact model designation can be made out. We suspect a DiMarzio PAF in the neck position and a DiMarzio Super Distortion at the bridge, which sits in a new surround. The PAF sounds warm, round and clearly defined – perfect for bluesy tones with plenty of sustain and "smack". The DiMarzio at the bridge has plenty of bite and a very tidy low end, which gives it a fast, biting attack and lets it cut through a band mix with ease. Switching from neck to bridge brings noticeably more top end and definition – from mellow blues to gritty rock, it's all in here. The original pickups are no longer with the guitar.

At 4.68 kg it's certainly no lightweight, but it's a sustain-rich example with plenty of mahogany mids – and it feels noticeably lighter on the strap.

Condition: built in 1977, and it shows – wear to the finish, mainly on the back, and aged binding. There's a small extra drill hole on the back above the electronics cover (a former strap pin), and the neck pickup surround has a small crack. It comes in an older, snug-fitting vintage-style case with the data sheet and the Limitless Custom Guitars invoice, as pictured.

Here's your chance to buy a wonderful '77 Les Paul at a fair, market-level price and save around €800 on upgrades – we haven't factored those into the price.
