Art & Historic era, plenty of Slash about it, and a big tone with it.
This is a proper Custom Shop find from the sought-after Good Wood era, at a fair price and with plenty of mojo. The 2005 Gibson 1958 Les Paul Reissue (R8) in Washed Cherry comes from single ownership and was bought from the well-known dealer Uli's Musik in Cologne — a copy of the invoice comes with it, anonymised, for the history. The years around 2005 are sought after precisely because unusually good, resonant timber was going into the guitars, and you can see and hear it in this one straight away.
The neck is a real highlight: catch the mahogany in the right light and there's a slight flame in the grain. Being a plain top, the cap deliberately skips the big flames and shows a beautifully calm, classy grain instead, and the rosewood board is lovely too. Condition is very good for the age — just a few fine scratches in the clear coat give away that it's over 20 years old.
In looks and in sound it leans hard towards Slash's famous '58, and that's exactly where the owner took it: Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Slash humbuckers and the finest Luxe Bumblebee capacitors. At 4.22 kg it's got the right weight for a forceful, singing tone with endless sustain — fat and woody, warm and vocal at the neck, full and cutting at the bridge, and never flat. Roll the tone back and the Bumblebees keep it silky and smacky rather than muddy and covered. In short: that unmistakable Slash tone, straight out of the case.
It comes in its original Gibson Custom Art & Historic case (some light wear), worth €500 to €800 on its own, with the COA and the case candy shown. A '58 reissue with character, mojo and Slash vibes. Not one to think about for too long.
