A 2016 Fender Masterbuilt '64 Relic Stratocaster in a Vintage White over Cherry Sunburst multi-layer finish. The colour-over-colour relic work tells the story of a guitar that got resprayed at the factory in the 1960s over an existing sunburst.
Pickups are a set of hand-wound '65 single coils, wound personally by Josefina Campos — who learned the job directly from pickup legend Abigail Ybarra. Anything carrying Josefina's signature is known for how it responds to your hands and for its string-to-string balance.
Low end: tight, nicely percussive, with a lovely smack to it when you dig in.
Mids and highs: warm, singing mids alongside those silky, transparent bell tones.
Range: bell-like cleans for chords that hang in the air, or a rasping, cutting woody tone for blues lines — it's a joy through an amp either way.
The neck is AA flamed maple with a very dark AAA rosewood board, a '60s oval “C” profile and a modern 9.5" radius that makes bending effortless, with grippy 6105 narrow/tall frets.
It's been played but very well looked after. The frets are in good shape with no wear worth mentioning. Weight: 3.25 kg.
