The Novo Idris HSS — Novo's Strat-flavoured all-rounder, from Guitar Summit 2025.
Meister Ede Guitars is an official dealer for Novo Guitars of Nashville.
Novo hardly needs explaining any more. These are superb guitars, handmade in Nashville, and long established among professionals worldwide.
This one was a custom order of ours and was shown, by arrangement, at Guitar Summit 2025. For international events like that the workshop always seems to go a step further. You'd guess the timber gets picked even more carefully to show the brand at its best. Either way, this one came out noticeably well.
You've got a very resonant pine body paired with a thoroughly comfortable medium C roasted maple neck carrying a lovely East Indian rosewood board. The 9.5"–14" compound radius makes it a joy to play.
Getting all that to the amp are Fralin Vintage Hot single coils and a Modern PAF. The clever part, though, is the wiring. A push/push pot splits the PAF in an instant, which gives you a credible single-coil voice at the bridge and also the classic Strat position 2 in combination with the middle pickup. To make the Idris HSS more flexible still, there's a blend control that lets you mix the neck pickup in with the bridge — and that gives you something close to the middle position of a Tele. It's superb. All of it is continuously variable, and the shaping options feel endless.
The core sound is full of character, a perfect mix of open, dynamic Strat with warm, bluesy corners. The good thing is that it copes with heavier gain without losing what makes it itself. This is the ideal all-rounder for shows where one guitar has to cover everything — and equally for people who simply want Strat sounds done properly, with a character of their own.
At 3.47 kg it sits in the ideal range for a punchy blues/rock Strat. Masterbuilt legend John Cruz always went for something between 3.4 and 3.6 kg for exactly that reason: to keep a guitar cutting through the midrange.
The looks are classic but no less striking when you turn it in the light. The light distress ageing looks the part and has been done with real care — photos struggle to catch it.
An Idris HSS you need to play to understand. Full specs are on the spec sheet in the photos.
Everything about it is top quality, and we can congratulate the next owner in advance. We originally ordered it for a regular customer who has since treated himself to a Novo Miris, so here's an as-new, hand-picked Idris HSS at a price you won't find again any time soon – if ever.
