Black korina, a neck made entirely of rosewood and handwound Häussel JM pickups – this JM-style has plenty of vintage charm, yet goes its own unconventional way!

The grain of the two-piece, hand-picked black korina body catches the eye straight away. Under the clear nitro lacquer the wood with its dark streaks really comes into its own. Only when you look closely do you notice the fine crackles in the lacquer ("weatherchecking") – a subtle detail that gives the guitar its vintage vibe without being obtrusive. Add the tortoise pickguard, perloid block inlays and all-nickel hardware: the charm of the late 50s unfolds in full.

This look is paired with modern, best-possible playability. The all rosewood neck is a Suwak speciality in combination with JM-style bodies: neck and fretboard of East Indian rosewood. The medium fat "D" profile fills the hand nicely, the 12" radius makes bends relaxed, and the oil & wax finish feels pleasantly natural – no stickiness, even after long sessions.

Sound-wise, the JM design brings its very own character: the wide, flat coils of the JM pickups sound fuller and warmer than classic single coils without losing their clarity. Notes start clear and precise and then really bloom. This is where the korina plays to its strengths: it has the warmth of mahogany but is livelier and noticeably more present in the upper mids. Chords stay nicely defined even with overdrive or fuzz, leads cut through effortlessly, and even clean sounds have contour and punch. The rosewood neck rounds it all off with a warm, singing note.

The Häussel pickups come from Burladingen in Germany, where Harry Häussel has been winding pickups since 1986 – pickups also trusted by renowned boutique builders such as Nik Huber. The JM set has a treble bleed, so the highs are kept when you roll back the volume, and a specially matched tone capacitor.

The Göldo vibrato with lowrider bridge allows subtle vibrato effects, Kluson tuners keep it in tune. At 3.92 kg the guitar sits well balanced on the strap.
