A thinline “Esquire” T-style, handmade in Germany and built entirely from local timber.
Suwak build everything by hand, from fine materials and with a style that's all their own — and this thinline Esquire shows exactly why they have the reputation they do among people who know. Instead of the usual standard woods you get a cleverly built body from superb tonewood, all of it locally grown: a back in the finest ash, a pear centre and a bookmatched maple top with an interesting, lightly flamed figure. All of it under a silky open-pore oil/wax finish that brings the grain to life. As a thinline with an elegant f-hole the body resonates freely — and it comes to a comfortable 3.0 kg.
The neck is a treat: 3A birdseye maple with a beautifully figured Indian rosewood board, smart offset dot inlays, a 9.5" radius and a substantial “fat D” profile that simply feels right when you play it. Oiled and waxed open pore again rather than thickly lacquered, so it feels like an instrument that's already been played in.
For a single-pickup guitar, the Esquire is a real chameleon. At the bridge sits a DiMarzio Chopper, with a push/pull coil split that genuinely sounds good: as a humbucker it gives fat, forceful power with a good helping of Tele bite, and split you get crisp, glassy single-coil twang. The volume control's treble bleed keeps the highs as you turn down, and the tone control with its capacitor rolls them off smoothly. With that light, resonant thinline body you end up with a surprisingly dynamic, airy tone and long sustain — from clear and percussive to fat and singing.
All the hardware comes in smart gold, which sets off the natural wood nicely.
In short: a handmade boutique guitar with unusual timber, featherweight construction and an enormous tonal range — as individual as instruments get. €2,290 including the case (€2,200 without). If you want something genuinely your own, with character, this is it.
