`09 Jackson USA Custom Shop King V, Satin Black with Silver Bevels, flamed neck-through neck, EMG 81X/60X, Floyd Rose Original – from Ede's Private Stock and more
Ede grew up on heavy metal and was a big Megadeth fan for a time. The 2009 Jackson King V from the Jackson USA Custom Shop brings that background into his Private Stock.
The finish catches your eye straight away: the body is Satin Black, and the bevelled edges are picked out in silver all the way round. This accentuates the sharp lines of the King V from every angle. The reverse headstock is bound and color-matched.
The real highlight only shows at second glance: the quartersawn maple neck-through neck is even nicely flamed! It carries a bound ebony fingerboard with sterling silver sharkfin inlays and 24 jumbo frets. The 12" to 16" compound radius and the flat Speed profile make fast runs up into the high registers easy.
For pickups, the King V relies on the X versions of the active EMG classics: an EMG 81X in the bridge and an EMG 60X in the neck. The 81X delivers a punchy, precise metal sound, the 60X in the neck sounds clear and round. Controls are one volume, two tones and a 3-way toggle. Add to that a Floyd Rose Original double locking tremolo and a Floyd Rose locking nut.
The guitar can do more than metal: it also works well for moderate rock and classic rock. For fans of Limp Bizkit, it covers everything you could want from a Wes Borland sound.
For its age, the guitar is in outstandingly well-kept condition apart from minimal signs of use. The original Jackson hard shell case shows somewhat more noticeable signs of use from live gigs. Ede plays it with 9.5 to 46 strings.
You will hardly find a second King V in exactly this spec – from Ede's Private Stock.
