Novo Guitars of Nashville, built around mastermind Dennis Fano, are about as good as it gets for modern vintage feel, resonance and attention to detail. The Idris is Novo's take on the S-style — but this one is a genuine special: this Idris HSS was built as a one-off, exactly to Meister Ede's specification, and isn't something you can simply order from Novo in this form.
Looks: Gold Sparkle meets a flamed neck with matching headstock
The centrepiece is unquestionably that heavily flamed roasted maple neck with its reverse headstock — a head-turner with three-dimensional depth that practically dances as the light moves. Combined with the sparkling gold metalflake finish you get an instrument with maximum stage presence that still manages to stay tasteful and individual.
Reverse headstock: not just for looks
The reversed layout isn't purely cosmetic. The changed string lengths behind the nut put more tension on the low strings, giving a tighter, better-defined bass foundation with faster attack, while the shorter distance makes the high strings easier to bend. That's exactly what Ede values about his reverse headstock instruments, done here to Novo's standard.
Construction and playability
As you'd expect from an Idris, the tempered, hand-selected body gives a fast, lively response and a comfortable weight. The roasted maple neck with its modern compound radius (9.5"–14") and cleanly dressed frets makes the Idris a buttery partner right up the neck — from bell-like chords to bends at the top.
Sound: HSS range
The HSS layout of two single coils and a humbucker at the bridge covers an enormous spread: bell-like, dynamic Strat cleans in the neck and in-between positions, plus a forceful, singing humbucker at the bridge for carrying riffs and leads. The vintage-style tremolo allows expressive vibrato with good tuning stability.
A genuine one-off from Ede's Private Stock — built to be played.
