Where it says Pete Thorn, the quality has to be there — which is why it says Suhr.
This HSS is widely reckoned to be one of the cleverest modern takes on the Strat. Pete Thorn, one of the most in-demand session players around, worked it through with Suhr down to the last detail, and you can tell immediately: someone built this as a working tool for real days. Ours in the lovely Ocean Turquoise Metallic comes from single ownership, is in very good condition, and still has the original protective film on the pickguard. There are some light belt-buckle marks on the back — otherwise it's been very well looked after.
It's a looker: a gloss Ocean Turquoise Metallic two-piece alder body against a smart roasted maple neck with lovely flame and a deep black ebony board. The oiled neck in the PT 60's soft-V profile, the 10–14" compound radius and 22 stainless jumbo frets give you a fast, buttery feel that's hard to beat.
The HSS layout, with two quiet V63 single coils and a Thornbucker II at the bridge, covers enormous ground: glassy, bell-like Strat cleans, the classic quacky in-between positions, and a fat, singing humbucker when you want to lean on it. The clever Suhr SSCII system keeps the single coils dead quiet, and the push-pull (bridge in parallel) plus the automatic coil split in position 2 conjure up more sounds again. Add the stable Wilkinson tremolo with locking saddles and Suhr locking tuners and you've got a genuine studio multi-tool.
And the 3.7 kg? Exactly right. That weight is deliberate: the timber gives you real sustain, a solid foundation and a tone with authority behind it — nothing here sounds thin. It also hangs beautifully balanced on a strap, which is how Pete Thorn wants it. Look at other examples of this model and you'll find much the same weight.
One from single ownership, in this colour, doesn't come along every day.
