NEW: Suwak Custom Guitars S-style, light aged. An ultra-light boutique Strat with superb playability and tone.
Suwak Custom Guitars are built by hand by Kawus Adni-Azar from the finest timber, and their standing in the boutique scene keeps growing — deservedly so. We're an official dealer for these instruments and work closely with Kawus to plan one-off builds for our customers.
Here's a lovely S-style in a “Relic Ready” light aged Shoreline Gold nitro. The aim of this order was a particularly light rock Strat that would still give enough midrange for tones with some push behind them. Mission accomplished: a very resonant Strat with a fast response at just 2.67 kg, thanks to that paulownia body.
The neck is a substantial 4A maple with a 12" radius and a nicely figured Indian rosewood board. Besides the excellent fat D shape, it's had the oil and wax treatment. The reverse headstock is another of Ede's extras, and it brings tonal benefits in how the string tension is spread. Kawus went for a two-piece body in light paulownia — incidentally about the most sustainable tonewood in guitar building. The Shoreline Gold is sprayed wafer-thin in nitro and covered in fine, authentic crackle, along the lines of Fender's “Relic Ready” finish.
Played unplugged, the paulownia Strat is loud and lively. The low frequencies are naturally a little more restrained, which gives the guitar an almost semi-hollow character. The slightly hotter-wound Häussel A5 Blues single coils have a fuller midrange and a bit more output, which picks up where the wood leaves off — so nothing here sounds thin. What you get instead is real dynamic range and a lightning-fast response. Clean through to rock, this guitar performs at the top level at an extremely light 2.67 kg. Everything about it is first rate — masterbuilt work.
